What happened with CE Speaking Tests before 2009

Before the launch of Schoolshape at the Language Show in 2009, teachers conducting speaking tests in UK independent junior schools had no option but to record the exams on cassette tapes or CDs, complete assessment sheets for each student, and send them by post to the language departments of the senior schools. Moderators in the senior schools listened to the recordings, made adjustments to the marks if necessary, then returned the cassettes and CDs to the junior schools for reuse.
